Course Description
A spotter is the forklift operator's eyes where the operator cannot see. Done properly it prevents crush injuries, damaged loads and dropped stock. Done casually it gives everyone false confidence. This short course teaches people how to spot properly.
Who it is for
Warehouse and yard workers, trades assistants, leading hands and anyone asked to spot for a forklift, telehandler or similar mobile plant.
What you will learn
- What a spotter is actually responsible for, and what they are not
- Forklift blind spots, tail swing and why reversing is the highest-risk movement
- Standing position: staying visible, out of the travel path and never under a load
- Standard hand signals and how to agree signals before movement starts
- Two-way radio and voice communication when line of sight is lost
- Exclusion zones, barricading and controlling other pedestrians
- Stopping the job: every spotter has authority to call a halt
