Course Description

Plain-English communication is a safety control. On Australian operations the difference between a near miss and a fatality is often whether one person said the right words, on the right channel, and whether the other person understood them. This 10-hour self-paced course is built for people who work in mining and resources and who want their English to hold up under pressure — at the pre-start, on the two-way, in a hazard report, at a shift handover, or standing up in front of a room. It is written for a mixed audience: workers whose first language is not English, workers with low literacy confidence, and supervisors who want their crews to actually understand them. You will work through seven sections of practical, scenario-based content drawn from real Australian site situations — open cut, underground, processing and workshop. Every section gives you the words, the sentence patterns, and the etiquette that Australian crews expect, plus what to do when you did not understand and need to say so. The course is 100% online and self-paced. There are no live cohorts to wait for and no scheduled webinars. Your progress saves automatically and you can complete it over multiple sessions. What certificate do I get when I finish?

When you complete every lesson and pass the assessment, a PDF certificate of completion is generated straight away. It shows your name, the course name, your assessment result, the date of completion, a unique serial number for audit purposes, and the signature of our director Sam Stenberg. You can download and print it any time from My learning, and anyone can confirm it is genuine using the certificate number on our verification page.

What score do I need to pass the assessment?

You need 100%. That sounds tough, but you are not sent back to the start if you get something wrong. Correct answers are locked in and you only retry the questions you missed, as many times as you need. You can also open the course slides while you are answering, so the assessment is there to make sure the information actually sticks rather than to catch you out.

Can I complete the course on a phone or tablet?

Yes. The course runs in a normal web browser on a phone, tablet, laptop or desktop, and there is nothing to install. Your progress saves as you go, so you can start on your phone at smoko and finish on a computer later. A stable internet connection is recommended, especially for video lessons.

Will my employer accept this certificate?

Many Australian employers accept non-accredited awareness training as evidence that a worker has covered the underpinning knowledge, and the certificate is designed to be printed and filed for auditing. It does not replace a licence, a Statement of Attainment, or a site-specific induction or verification of competency. If the certificate is for a compliance requirement, check with your employer or site before enrolling.
